Ketsol/Products/Edge Gateway
Industry 4.0 · Edge gateway

Any protocol in. OPC UA, IEC-104, DNP3 out.

Ketsol Edge Gateway is the industrial bridge between the shopfloor and everything above it. Convert any of 50+ fieldbus protocols into OPC UA, IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3 — duplex, real-time, bi-directional. Run it stand-alone as a converter, plug it into MSSQL as an archiver, or pair it with KMS for full edge-to-cloud integration. Built with hot-standby redundancy for fail-safe deployments.

Three modes of operation

Standalone, archiver, or edge-to-cloud — same hardware.

The Edge Gateway ships in one box, with three deployment modes. Pick the one your plant needs today, switch on the others when you're ready.

01

Stand-alone protocol converter

Drop it into an existing estate and instantly speak OPC UA, IEC-104 or DNP3 on top of Modbus, S7, EtherNet/IP, MELSEC, BACnet or anything else. No KMS server required — runs fully self-contained at the edge.

02

MSSQL archiver

Built-in MSSQL writer pushes tag history directly into any SQL Server schema — yours, an ERP's, or a BI's. Configurable retention, batching and back-pressure handling so the archive never blocks the live conversion path.

03

Edge-to-cloud · KMS integrated

Pair with KMS for the full manufacturing OS — the gateway stays at the edge doing protocol work, KMS Central does modelling, dashboards, alerts and AI. Same artifact, just point it at the KMS server.

Bi-directional · duplex

Two-way conversion. Read and write, both sides.

Protocol converters that only read aren't enough — real Industry 4.0 estates need to write back. Setpoints, control commands, remote acknowledgement, recipe updates, SCADA writes from the master side — all of it flows back through the gateway and out to the controllers downstream.

FIELD · CONTROLLERSModbus PLCS7 / EtherNet/IPEDGEGWMASTERS · SCADA / EMSOPC UA clientIEC-104 / DNP3 master▶ READ · tags▶ READ · tags◀ WRITE◀ WRITE

Inbound (read)

Subscribes to controllers at their native poll / report rate. Mapped tags appear instantly on the OPC UA / IEC-104 / DNP3 server side.

Outbound (write)

SCADA / EMS master sends a setpoint or command — gateway translates it into the controller's native protocol and writes it back, with confirmation.

Audited

Every write is logged with source identity, timestamp and acknowledgement state. Forwarded to MSSQL / KMS for full bi-directional audit trail.

Redundancy · fail-safe

Hot-standby pair. Sub-second failover.

Run two Edge Gateways in active / standby. They share state over a fast sync link — every tag, every queued write, every subscription. If the active node fails, the standby takes over before the SCADA timeout window — clients never notice.

FIELD · TAPPEDPLC / RTUField busEDGE GW · AACTIVEEDGE GW · BSTANDBY⇅ state syncSCADA / EMS · MASTEROPC UA / IEC-104

State replication

Tag values, subscription lists, write-in-flight queues and session tokens are replicated continuously over a dedicated sync link.

Sub-second failover

Standby takes the virtual IP and resumes serving inside the SCADA / IEC-104 / DNP3 timeout window — masters see no disconnect.

Zero data loss

In-flight reads and writes finish on whichever node survives. Queued archives drain to MSSQL / KMS without gaps.

Standards-grade outputs

Three industrial-grade protocols. Full server stacks.

The Edge Gateway exposes its converted data on three first-class industrial servers — not minimal subsets, full conformance.

UA

OPC UA

Full server with information modelling, historical access (HDA) for time-series replay, A&E events, and method calls. Security: anonymous / username / X.509, sign & encrypt over TCP or HTTPS.

104

IEC 60870-5-104

Telecontrol outbound for utility & substation control rooms. Spontaneous, polled and cyclic reports. Direct, select-before-operate and persistent commands. ASDU priority queues and TLS optional.

DNP

DNP3

Full outstation — analog, binary, counter, frozen, file-transfer objects. Unsolicited reporting, event-buffered, dataset and secure authentication supported.
